Block Noise! A video installation on MPEG-4 and recursive pixel regimes
There are almost only digital images left around us. They are reduced and compressed, using highly complex algorithms. It's about HD, 3D and the "digital dividend".
Certain images become impossible under these circumstances, they cannot be grasped by the modern formats. The video installation "Block Noise!" shatters the codec regime and recursively confronts the algorithms with their own encoded product.
There is a project documentation (PDF, german, 26 pages, 511 KB) about background and research.
The code of the software of the installation is available on github.com
This project was made in the MA programme European Media Studies at the University Potsdam and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
